Bountiful is more than a Mid-Shore destination for fine home furnishings, unique gifts and personalized design services.  We believe that we’re a part of the communities we serve and are committed to the “neighbor-helping-neighbor” tradition that makes Eastern Shore of Maryland such a special place to live.

Bountiful’s staff logs hundreds of hours each year working for organizations that make a difference in their communities.  As a company, we regularly support non-profit organizations through direct donations, help with galas, and with our annual Holiday Kick-Off Event.  We do it because we’re all in this together and that’s what neighbors do.

BOUNTIFUL SPONSORS ANGEL TREE FOR
MID-SHORE
COUNCIL ON FAMILY VIOLENCE

A very special Christmas tree is part of the spectacular holiday display at Bountiful this year. Jamie and the gang are hosting an Angel Tree so that Bountiful’s customers’ and friends can help to bring a brighter Christmas to families impacted by domestic violence.

Most of the tags on the tree represent the holiday “wishes” of families and children served by the Mid-Shore Council on Family Violence (MSCFV), including those living in the Council’s shelter. Some tags represent requests by the Council itself for items that will enhance their ability to serve clients.

Jamie says: “For the past several years, my staff and I have asked the MSCFV to let us know about families who could use our help during the holidays. We’ve taken great joy in helping to meet their needs. Customers, who were aware of what we were doing, pitched in too. This year, we’d like to encourage the entire community to participate in our special holiday tradition. The need has never been greater and we want to meet each family’s request.”

The Angel Tree will be at Bountiful from November 3rd through December 12th. Community members are encouraged to drop by the store, which is located at 218 N. Washington Street in Easton, and pick a gift tag from the tree. Wrapped gifts, with the original tag firmly attached, must be returned to the store no later than December 12th.

Bountiful & Mid-Shore Council on Family Violence
Team Up to Fight Domestic Violence

Jamie Merida, Bountiful’s owner, made a commitment in January to spend the year helping to raise awareness of the work done by the Mid-Shore Council on Family Violence (MSCFV).  He also committed to help raise money for the organization and earlier this month presented the Council with a check for $961.91.

Jamie says:  “We have been running a series of monthly in-store events and design seminars all year.  We tell our customers and friends that 20 percent of any purchases they make during these events is donated to MCFV.  It’s also an opportunity to help spread the word about the important work the Council does to break the cycle of domestic violence through intervention and prevention.”

He adds:  “Our workshops, parties, and seminars continue through the end of the year.  We hope that by December we will have an even bigger donation to share with this very worthy organization.”

In addition to intervention and prevention services, the MCFV provides shelter, counseling, advocacy, and a wide range of services for both victims and abusers.  To find out more about MCFV, please visit its website, www.mscfv.org

Jamie Merida and Bountiful were presented the Mid-Shore Council on Family Violence’s Community Award at the organization’s annual meeting on June 3, 2010.  The award was made, the organization said, “for the overwhelming support (Bountiful) provided to a shelter client at Christmas.”

Jamie Merida says: “The Council works to break the cycle of domestic violence through intervention and prevention. They provide shelter, counseling, services and advocacy for both victims and abusers. It’s impossible to overstate the importance of what they do.”

Two years ago Bountiful began adopting a sheltered family at Christmas.  Last year the staff’s efforts spontaneously grew to include customers and friends.

Merida explains:  “Customers who saw the big tree and the presents we were beginning to gather together asked how they could help.  Before we knew it, the front of our store was filled with piles of toys, clothing, and even car seats.  Those who didn’t bring gifts donated over $1,000.00 in gift cards.  The response was so overwhelming that we literally filled a van and were able to help more than just the one family we had intended to adopt.”

The gifts, Merida believes, send a potent message to abused families.  “We’re trying to tell them that abuse is not ok and that somebody out there cares a lot about you.  We want them to know that it’s ok to leave the abusive situation and that we’re behind them.”

Each year, Bountiful launches the holiday season with a party benefiting a local non-profit organization. Jamie Merida, Bountiful’s owner, transforms his 20, 000 square foot shop into a seasonal wonderland with close to three tons of imported holiday ornaments, decorations, and gifts.  Jamie prides himself on offering hard to find merchandise and crams every nook and cranny of the store with delightful holiday surprises.
This is how it works.  The community is invited to shop for a good cause and Bountiful donates 20 percent of the sales made during the party to a featured organization.  Hundreds of Mid-Shore residents come out to shop and share a glass of wine friends. There’s food, music, laughter and the good feeling that comes from knowing that your holiday shopping has helped to support an important community organization.
In 2009 the Kick-Off benefited the
Mental Health Association of Talbot County
